Dear Douglas County Families,

I hope you had a wonderful, safe, and relaxing fall break. I know it was much needed, and much deserved.

First, it is an absolute honor to serve as your Interim Superintendent. I have served my entire career here in the Douglas County School District (DCSD), my children have attended DCSD schools, and my wife and I reside in Douglas County. My roots here run deep, and I feel a very personal stake in ensuring that our students, families, and staff feel heard, and share in the pride that I feel in our amazing school district.

Today, we are thrilled to be welcoming our Hybrid Elementary School students back to full-time, in-person learning. It will be the first time since last March that we have had our youngest students back in the classroom together. We are looking forward to providing critical learning experiences in-person, however, keeping our staff and students safe is still our top priority.

While we are confident we can return our elementary students to the classroom safely, we have all seen the rising COVID numbers across Colorado. Thankfully, many of the COVID statistics here in Douglas County have gone down since the initial post-Labor Day uptick. Of course, we will continue to monitor the COVID data here in Douglas County and across Colorado. I’m hoping I can count on our amazing community to help us keep the numbers down in Douglas County so that we can remain full time in person at the elementary level throughout this year.

Every one of us--every parent, every teacher, every student and every community member--plays a critical role in getting our schools back to normal. Please continue to wear face coverings in public, avoid large gatherings, wash or sanitize your hands regularly, stay home, and keep your children home when sick, and maintain physical distancing when possible. In addition, be sure to take advantage of free, community testing sites available here in Douglas County.

Entering this role of Interim Superintendent during a pandemic is certainly a challenge, but also an opportunity. It is an opportunity for us to come together as one community to find solutions, assist each other when times are especially difficult, and partner together to best serve each and every one of our students.

Thank you for all that you do and I look forward to partnering with you.

Corey Wise
