About DCSD Healthy Schools

The Healthy Schools department in DCSD believes that healthy and happy students perform better. Our department helps create positive learning environments by partnering with Healthy Schools/Wellness Leads at school sites to build School Health Improvement Plans (SHIPs).  Our work is based on the Whole School, Community, Child (WSCC) model, which defines a framework for how best to meet the needs of the whole child through coordination of school professionals, families and the community.

Examples of SHIPs:

Mindfulness at Arrowwood Elementary, Cougar Run Elementary, Mountain Ridge Middle School, Pine Lane Intermediate and Buffalo Ridge Elementary Staff resilience at Douglas County High School, Bear Canyon Elementary, Saddle Ranch Elementary, and Cimarron Middle School All-School Morning Movement at Mountain View Elementary Student-Led Health Teams at Clear Sky Elementary, Fox Creek Elementary, Franktown Elementary, Heritage Elementary, Sagewood Middle School and Wildcat Mountain Elementary Junior Recess Coach Pilot programs at Cherokee Trail and Gold Rush No Idling Programs at HRHS and MVHS

Research proves that students who work in healthy learning environments
do better academically, socially, and are more engaged.
Let’s make it happen together!
